Does anyone here know the procedure for putting a private reg on retention? someone who's done it very recently with it fresh to memory?

i have memory problems, its been about 3 years since i took mine off my corsa, any help grateful

I done it recently with my BMW when I was going to sell it, then promptly put it back on when I changed my mind. I never actually took the plate off the car, but the DVLA still relieved me of £105 for their efforts of typing a few things into a computer  >:(

Anyway you just get the appropriate form from the DVLA (can't remember the number) fill in all the details, and either post it off or take it to your local DVLA office. You have to include the V5C and MOT, and they're send you new ones with the replacement number, along with a new tax disc. They include a return envelope for you to then send the old tax disc, and you'll get a retention cert for the number.

Then it's just a case of putting on your new tax disc, and displaying the appropriate plates on the car -- easy :) and a bloody rip off >:(

thanks alot people, i found the relevant form on DVLA site available to download, tis all straight forward now :D
