fitting self leveling suspension

Im thinking of doing this upgrade and have a chance of a complete system but am worried it might be a bridge to far for me to cope with so what are the pit falls I could expect???

Any advice would be great before I confirm with this chap that I will take it off his hands and is there anything  present on my car that was standard fitted to complete this task  before it was made into a cdx???

Well physically you need to change the rear shocks, rear springs, levelling sensor , plastic tubing and install the air pump under the front offside wing.

I don't know whether the wiring loom would be there or not.

I can't really see the point. Yes you would get a softer ride and when carry heavy loads and or towing you would have the back end the right level but.........

On the downside a lot of work, you are stuck with standard VX rear shocks when they need replacing (min of £150 a pair) and special soft springs. If one breaks you have either VX price to pay or get KYB ones that match the self levelling fitment.

Your call. I personally would be tempted to fit some better quality rear shockers -perhaps Bilsteins? It depends what you use the car for?

Thanks for that .... I think I will now stick to plan A and get a new set  that  you can attach an air line too for when Im towing the big white box

Self levelling shocks will work with any springs IMO.


Lazydocker has been running stock springs with self levelling for over two years.

I have lowered sports chassis springs on my elite with sl.

Have seen ex plod with self levelling and upgraded springs.

My parts man tells me plod add self levelling to plod cars carrying extra load.(if we believe him that is)

So I guess it's all doable, only question is weather the loom is present? Don't know if the elite loom is different to others as only elites have sl, unless it's a plod special of course. And I presume there is an ecu involved somewhere along the line....?

Ive had youre plan A on my previous MV6 and 2L ecotec cav, although its very good (assume you mean Monroe ride levellers) however I find my Elite's self levelling suspension far better and more convenient,for pulling my 18ft white box wasn't aware that my springs are softer maybe thats because miggies an estate.

I have this setup fitted to my cdx, the loom connector for the pump was clipped to the panel just under the o/s (drivers) headlamp, its visable by jacking up the car and looking up from underneath, my old gls estate and cd saloon I broke for parts also had it,

so assuming yours does you will need a relay for the box behind the glovebox, and possibly a fuse in the main fuse box (depends on your trim level if there is one already there) along with the pump, shocks and lines. you also need the mounting bolts that come with the bracket for the pump as they lock into the pre fab holes in the inner wing.

loom in place under the front wing for the pimp

loom also in place under the rear seat for the wiring from the level sensor unit - make sure that you get this with the "kit".

relay lives under rear seat, too I think, just where the rear seat heater relays are.

got ex-plod estate with self levelling - done by the factory, not added after.
