Misfire - V6
« on: 11 October 2010, 19:23:49 »

As said, was running fine doing around 68mph (like you do) when suddenly got the engine emissions light on the instrument panel and was running quite lumpy.  Pulled over and turned off. Re-started and the condition cleared for a while then came back again.
I checked the codes (pedal trick) and got 0300 and 0302 which I interpret as random misfire on cylinder 2. I was really hoping for a faulty spark plug.

I got a new set of plugs and fitted them this morning (thanks to Markjay for an excellent guide  8-) ). No improvement. I checked all components before re-installation but found no loose connections, no oil in the wells etc and even the cyl 2 plug looked ok.

I am now thinking coil pack 2-4-6 but I thought I'd ask for some learned opinions before I whiz back to the 'stealers' and convince them to relieve me of £100  :(

I'd appreciate your comments guys (and ladies of course!)

Did the coil pack look like it was delaminating?

No, no sign of any problems visible, mind it has done about 95k so perhaps it is breaking down inside

I really need to get the part today while I have the time to fit it so I've ordered from local stealer in Watford. They have promised it for 1pm.

I was quite impressed with Vauxhallworldparts though. They have the part in stock (genuine Bosch) and it would be £74.47 all up delivered tomorrow.

Just thought I'd feed back for interest - Fitted the new 2-4-6 bank coilpack this afternoon and it now runs smoothly again with full power available. Only annoyance is the emissions light still on. Took about a week to reset itself last time. Might have to invest in a cheapo 'tech 2' just to turn it off.

Just as an aside, and others may not have noticed this (or it's peculiar to my car?) but the last time I had the emissions light on I had a couple of occasions where the car had gone into limp home mode but the engine with spanner symbol light did not come on. As soon as the emissions light went out, the spanner light works again. It appears to be an either-or situation.
