rumbling sound from drivers side front wheel
« on: 13 October 2010, 20:46:23 »

I have noticed i get a rumbling sound from the drivers side front wheel. Tyre pressure correct. I think it might be down to cheap tyres as they are budget ones on at the moment fitted by the previous owner.

none of your neighbour reported any missing cats or anything?  :D

jack up the offending wheel, and rotate wheel by hand, if noise is present it should be clear whats causing it, eg. brake pads, bearing. or if silent maybe the wingwongs that you have on  ;D ;D

Hi- Before you do anything expensive, swap front wheels to back. While you are doing this see if the tread blocks are raised on one edge. One way of doing this is to run the palm of your hand around the  tread area in each direction. If it is "sticky"  in one direction and smooth in the other: thats the problem If so replace front tyres on opposite sides of front of car insted of back. Handling may be affected untill you have done a few miles and they have worn flat again.  Running Firestone tyres at the time, I changed both front wheeel bearings to no avial, but the above process fixed it. A trip to WiM would probably be of benefit if it has not been looked at recently
