Cam Sensor plug
« on: 19 October 2010, 18:07:21 »

Hi Guys

Well Jimbob was right - do not buy cheap cam sensors off the web LOL. Fitted it about 2 Months ago and now when in traffic and temp high, fan comes on and it runs and ticks over rough until it eventually cuts out and light comes on. test with Op Com says cam sensor. when going again and temp goes down light goes off and all is well. Anyway, got new one from Vauxhall dealer but the plug connector is the wrong one from my original.Spoke to Vauxhall who say that there is a wiring plug update for my new 2 ltr cam sensor that they now supply and wanted another £32 for this plug and numerous bits of wire, regardless to say I declined there offer.Has anyone come across this and more importantly how did you get round it. Was thinking about snipping off original plug and fitting spades to just push down on new sensor contacts. Any help gratefully recieved

there are two types cam sensor for the 2.0, you don't need the "updated" one, you need the original one for your car. Do you still have the original GM sensor?

That is correct, they used to supply the loom with the sensor but now dont.

I noticed that somebody is doing a pattern sensor with cable for little money

Vx still do the orginal sensor, well at least 6 months ago they did. I fitted one for a chap with a 2.0 near Heathrow, he had the 'new' sensor with loom which needed wiring in. But he took it back to Vx and they provided the correct one which just dropped in, no loom modifications  :-/

Must have been MEGA old stock then.

I am slightly surprised about this post as given the age of car, it should already have the later loom

Thanks for all the info guys. I think I will go back to dealers and ask them to order another one and see if I can get the right one for the plug on the original one which is fitted to the car.I have fitted a few of these over the years to numerous Omega's I have owned and never come across this problem. It seems to me that Vauxhall, in these financial times are just trying to squeeze another couple of pounds out of us by changing things that do not need changing. The parts Dept at dealers told me that they must have had a problem with the old sensors and changed supplier - Dont buy it myself. Will let you know how I get on
