engine oil
« on: 01 December 2010, 12:42:52 »

Hi just a quick question. Can your tell me what is the best additive for my engine. I am getting a tappit noise on start up. also what is the best engine oil. I do short journeys only if that makes a difference in what type of oil needed.
cheers

I cant advise on additives, but I do generally short journeys 6.5 miles each way to work. I use Vauxhall semi synth and it is pretty good. I do suffer a bit of mayo in the oil filler cap area, but much less than using other oils.

Unlikely to be the manifold on a 2.6 as they are a multilayer metal gasket and use a steel manifold.

Most likely to be followers, a few good short oil changes will help and wynns lifter treatment gives reasonable results

Wynns valve lifter treatment is £7.99 from Halfrauds if you want to try it first :y

if you leave an omega v6 standing for a week and start it, it will sound like a talbot.

mayo on the filler cap like the other bloke said due to short journeys. wipe it off every week and do regular oil changes.

Will it?  :-? I'll let you know when I start mine after the snow's gone, but it didn't the last time it was left a week on my drive.  ;)

I would recommend a couple of very quick oil changes, then a bottle of wynns lifter treatment, keeping it in for 3000 miles, then another oil change :y
