Advice Needed
« on: 07 December 2010, 17:03:39 »

Hi all, first post here! Looking for some info I have a 53 plate Omega 2.2 Petrol and the temp gauge is reading Zero constantly, just changed the thermostat thinking it would resolve the problem and it hasn't the thermostat is working as the coolant pipes are warm and its like a furnace inside the car when up to temp lol! From what i have read on the forum so far it could be a 'Engine Coolant temp sensor'. I have no idea where it is though! Any help??? Car runs fine just reads Zero all the time now!

Cheers

Check connector is on for the dash gauge.(rear of engine) If OK, pull connector, put it to "earth" and gauge should  go to max

This lump is at the back of the head. If you carefully push your hand down between engine & scuttle on the right hand side of the DIS pack plug you should be able to feel the connector. (the little brass round headed thing to the left of the black plug socket in the picture)  You are looking down on it at it as if you were able to see it from inside the car :y :

I'm afraid that pic is slightly misleading when labelled as a 2.2 engine part.  I took the pic, and it's of the 'chunk' bolted onto the rear end of the engine head of a 2.0.

I believe the 'chunk' on the 2.2 looks somewhat different, at least in respect of the items bolted to the top of it.  I have asked a mod. on here (forget who) to note this next to the piccy in the relevant thread, but it hasn't yet happened.

Edit: Ah, good 'ole Philrich.  That photo would be much more useful than mine in the "useful 2.2 engine pics thread".

As freecall666 says, look/feel down over the rear end of the top of the engine, and you should see/feel the two temperature senders.

Exactly the same casting but the 2.2 hasn`t got the Dis bolted to it,but I agree, a tad misleading ;)

Look at this pic of my engine with the cam cover removed. See the DIS plug at the middle back (black plastic)? Notice the round black disk topped thing to the immediate right of it? that is the EGR valve. On the other pic I posted that EGR is removed & a blanking plate fitted. Any the wiser now? :-?
