AGR valve to ex. manifold flexi pipe
« on: 23 December 2010, 23:01:01 »

Had some unusual noises in the engine bay this morning on the way to work. Diagnosed aux. belt tensioner - took the pulley off, repacked with HMP grease, put it back on - quiet as a mouse.
Could then hear another noise - chuffing, for want of a better word. Traced it to the flexi pipe between AGR valve and manifold appearing to be loose at both ends, but closer inspection suggests its broken right at the top.
What does the pipe do ? Does it affect performance/ mpg greatly if it is cracked or loose ? Is it difficult to remove ? the bottom nut looks like the coolant transfer pipe will be in the way. :-/
How much are they ? Does anyone have a part number ? or does anyone have a spare one please for a few beer tokens ?
Thanks in advance. :y

Im assuming you been EGR?

If so, Mine has the same problem, but its loos at the manifold end. I forgot all about it actually until reading this thread (Noticed it early summer)

Shouldn’t effect MPG I wouldn't of thought.

I know when I tried to loosed the bolt on the exhaust manifold on mine it wouldn’t budge, and yes the coolant pipe was in the way. Since it wasn't causing any problems I left it (and then forgot!) as I didn’t want to create another problem forcing it etc!

People often block the pipes up anyway with a coin (5 pence piece maybe?)

LMF are utter rubbish - dont buy steering idlers from them! You've been warned![/size]

A one pence piece is what I used in the inlet port of the EGR. However Albs you mention a flexi pipe. I have a rigid pipe on my TD.
Are you talking diesel or petrol?

Edit: Just noticed you also have LPG so we're talking petrol.  :-[

It'll be petrol. Long time since I had an Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, but if I did have one I'd block the bugger off fairy quick.

Thanks for the replys chaps. Christ I must have been tireder than I thought last night. I know what the EGR valve does, but it seems I forgot,  :-[ I was even late for work this morning for the first time ever. ::) .....I blanked off my previous one by replacing the gasket with a blanking plate. Maybe blank this one by an appropriate sized coin in the end of the pipe then. :y
