Oil Leak
« on: 01 January 2011, 16:28:32 »

Hi guys.
Got a slight Oil leak on the mig and I was wondering if some of you more mechanicaly minded members could help me.
I've only had my omega for about 3 months and ever since I bought it I've noticed a faint burning smell whenever I've switched the engine off after going for a drive.

It's not very obvious and I sometimes wonder if I'm just being paranoid and imagining it, but I'm pretty there's something there.

To be honest with you all I've had a lot of problems in my personel life during the last few months so my car has been a low priority for me so I've just left it....however I've recently noticed something else which concerns me and I find it hard to believe that their not connected.

I noticed a slight line of oil that looked like it had leaked out from under the eco cover and had run down the right hand side and ended up on that shiny silver bit (sorry to sound like a knob but i don't know the correct names for all the bits)
I thought that maybe it was just some of the usual grease and grime that you get under the bonnet of most cars so I wiped it all clean and decided that I would check again in a couple of weeks time.

Just checked and its there again, once again not loads, just a faint little bit of oil.
You can see the faint brown lines on the right hand side of the eco cover where it has come out from the seal.

Any opinions and advice are greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot....FUDGEE  :y

Thankyou for your reply and the link rob.
Can I ask you if the slight burning smell I've been noticing could be related to the cam cover gasket as well  :y

Thats actually a huge relief.
A new cam cover gasket.......I can live with that!!...i was having visions of my engine suddenly exploding and all sorts  ::) ::)

I'll take it to my local mechanic, he's resonable with his prices and always does a good job.
Can I ask you in your opinion roughly how long it should take him to do it so I can get an idea of how much this is all going to cost me.

I want to make sure I don't get my pants pulled down thats all  :y

How good the finished result is will depend on the quality of parts used. As expensive as they are, it's cheaper/easier in the long run to use them instead of doing the job twice when patter/copy parts have been used in the first place & then leaked again. Pattern parts tend to harden which then leads to a leak ...... again. Also ensure that the breathers are done at the ame time or again you'll be piddling in the wind if you don't. If you contact andyc he'll be able to sort you out a set at a preferential price  :y

your alternative is, to ask one the lads who travel to you ie (in no particular oder  ;) Welung666 (aka Lee), Elite Pete or Darth Loo-Knee (aka Dax)  :y
