Help needed aux belt + alternator
« on: 29 December 2010, 23:26:41 »

Howdy folks,is there anyone near me that can help me to replace my aux belt and also my alternator.I think I have got the correct replacement belt and I have a 'spares' car on my drive ready to take the alternator from.I might also need to 'salvage' the tensioner pulley or set fire to the whole bl**dy lot as I am not the happiest person at the moment. I didn't realise how heavy the steering is until the aux belt gives up! I am willing to pay for the work but as usual money isn't exactly free flowing at the moment and can only afford £100 so if I get told to go and whistle I will understand  :) Thank in anticipation OOFers.

HJD, I have never done one, but can be there in the morning if convenient. PM me. Don't think there are any special tools needed. If anyone has any tips, feel free.

Multiram setup out.

Aux belt off. Belt removal can be done by undoing the screw holding the bracket between the 2 a/c pipes.

Disconnect battery

Remove the two securing bolts (one end is torx, the other end hex)

swing the alternator out and disconnect the two rear electrical connections.
15mm spanner on the tensioner ("T") turn clockwise to relieve tension

Well it is with great news that Agemo came round (to my house) this morning and we cracked on with the job! Amazingly the aux belt has been replaced and so has the alternator without much damage done either. The only things left to do are to charge the battery and soure a replacement T piece for the air system.
Thank you to RobG for the diagram and info.
Thanks once again for Agemo's help it couldn't have been done without him.  :y

Well after messing about with a dead battery that was new in October the shop replaced it and after some hesitation the old barge fired back up into life, yipee.
So it is with great thanks once again to Agemo for his help and humour that we got the job done.Top bloke  :y
