2001 Omega 3.2 Special Ex Police
« on: 13 January 2011, 00:24:34 »

Hi guys, i'm wondering if i should remap or modify my 3.2 to get a little more power however being ex-police would they have asked Vauxhall to modify the engine already (apart from alternator etc).

I know there's alot of debate about the police tuning their vehicles but does anyone have a definite answer?

Thank you :))

I'm not absolutely certain about it, but I think most plod vehicles have pretty much standard motors.
Electrics and suspension are usually up-graded.  :y

Mine was 'apparently' re-chipped by the plod...

Not sure if it was a piggy back or a re-map tho, but its something I'm considering further down the line.

right ere we go.
all police omegas have STD ecu some that were used by TVP and MET  as ARV were "improved" by svo which ones i cannot find out weather or not they were sold with the "improvment" dont know.
there was also some spook cars that were "improved" again unknown.
the only known super police omega's were owned by the R.U.C. they were turbo ed by courtanys.

dre,

If you've bought WA51YNG the chances are that you'll struggle to get much more out of it. :-/

I was it's first civilian owner, in 2005 and it was seriously quick then. It ended up being sold by simon in Bournemouth, who felt it was one of the fastest police migs that he had driven. If you're not sure of your reg, it is the only mig estate that I know of with silver roof rails. 8-)

I bought mine off of Simon in Bournmouth and its ex-ARV, so maybe it was 'fiddled' with... Who knows!

I didn't think they or that actually made it into service, there were problems with cooling the rear cylinders and it didn't make any more power than a standard 3.0

There were a couple of Courtney turbo'd cars around, but both with shagged big ends. Not sure if they still exist.

Not sure this is correct by any means, but afaik the only reason any uk plod omega is quicker than any other is due to a lower geared dif, as in the 04 plated 3.2 I drove owned by another member here. Lowered, possibly more than stock mv6 btw, and the revs are constantly higher than stock.

Iirc 80 mph equates to almost exactly 3000 rpm on a customer spec 3.2 auto, his plod spec 3.2 auto sat 3500 rpm at the same road speed.

It will be more juicy on fuel, higher revs on a long journey may be a bit annoying possibly, and some loss if top speed, but how often do we top out an omega? I've never managed it. So may as well gear it down if you want to "tune" the engine, I have 2.6 dif here waiting to go in, cost me 20 quid.  :-?

ive never checked any of the ratios in the diff of any ex-plod ones that ive owned or own. they did fit to the manwells the diesel gearbox as its stonger(diesel has more tourqe) hence stronger box.
Also the reason the 3.2 civiee spec was only available as auto was due to manuel not being put in the sales spec but if pushed it was allowed to be fitted as a special option £1500 hence very rare. thats why 3.2 plod seem quicker lower 1st gear.
