Bit of advice needed for my recently purchased Ome
« on: 25 January 2011, 22:02:58 »

 Hi guys,

I become the proud owner of a 2002 Omega which I have always wanted! She has only covered 30k!!!  with a genuine service & vosa mot history, but was a little tatty as the previous old boy owner was trying to squeeze her into a garage almost half the size every time he took her out for a local shop!

Im aware she has not got the best sized engine for her size, but she was a bargain as i bought her for £600!!!!

With the bodywork almost rectified by some very patient friends who dont charge the earth & just recently sticking some nice black leather interiors inside she has decided to develop a few weird engine/gearbox characterists!!!!!

Here we go........
When she is cold, Between the speeds of 25 to 30 mph a slight rumble develops (the engine doesnt hesitate) could it be gearbox related??

and recently, a slight rumble/vibration between 50 to 55 mph, both of these faults disappear after 2 or 3 minutes!!! But they dont appear to be normal!!!

Any advice from all you experts??

If any, im aware she does need to have a cambelt change as she is now 8 years old and has just done over 30k, the previous owner cannot recall a belt change since he had her from new and it is not logged in the service history book.

Your advice would be appreciated guys (if anyone can recommend a really good value for money vauxhall specialist garage near or around the Black Country please holla back)  ::)

Hiya mate :y
1st thing is get the cambelt & tensioners changed as a matter of urgency & it's best if the waterpump is renewed at the same time. Also check the plug wells are free from signs of water or oil. Oil means your camcover gasket is goosed, water means your scuttle is leaking at the middle joint & needs a bead of silicone to seal it. Also clean the Breather tubes. All these jobs can be found in the Maintenance Section of the Forum or in 'Search' :y
As for the 'rumbling' this could be a number of things, but imho it will be a slight misfire which clears rapidly after a cold start. Mine has done it since I bought it & I have yet to find a cure, I believe it is an inherent problem with the 2.2 but causes no harm & is just a pita until you get used to it! ::) :y
