Drivers door check strap, anger needs venting!!!
« on: 22 January 2008, 20:48:43 »

After 3.5 hours of bending, cutting, twisting and cursing myself and my father finally got the bloody thing fixed. What a pig of a design, what were they thinking putting such a poor quality bracket holding that sail sized door.

Years ago I had to do the same job on the drivers door of a 1996 1.7td Vectra (savage Isuzu engine) so I had an idea what was ahead of me but id swear the Vectra’s was better quality. I saw the GM bracket that offered to “support and fix” damaged door brackets but I knew mine was damaged well beyond this so I had blow dust off the old brain cells to fix it.

Thankfully is working again now and much stronger that it’s ever been (the A pillar will bend before the straps bracket does now!!) and to be honest I forgot how handy the check strap is but my God, its a f**ker of a job. Not to mention I was über late for the dinner and the wife is none to happy with me.

Just wanted to vent some steam, forgive my ranting
