hand brake woes
« on: 26 February 2011, 11:55:15 »

hi all i have some issues with my hand brake i fitted new shoes and disks/drums just after i got the car and followed the guide on here yet with in days the travel on the hand brake was back to excessive again so i re stripped them down to check and when you pull the cable on the os only one shoe the forward facing one moves ? i couldn't see the fault so reassembled and re adjusted inc cable balance bar to the point where the leaver only had 4 or 5 clicks if that of travel that was a month or so ago but it failed the mot for no reserve travel on hand brake ?

have you changed the cable retainers (springs on cable) they attach on the back of the plate and the end of the cable on both sides.

when you have fittet them on they will be the same strenth, then adjust the cable and shoes, if one spring is week it will pull on other side.. you can see some times that the link at the hand brake end will be out of line one side sort and other side long, when you put new springs on and set up they should be the same on both side..
