Timing belt...
« on: 26 February 2012, 13:47:11 »

 :(
Hi all again, just a quick one, my 1999 20.i  had developed a bit of a 'rattle' the last few days, I remember checking the timing belt a month or two back and all seemed fine. Anyway, it gave up the ghost yesterday and cut out, now it just turns over without firing, and makes a sound like everything rattling top end.

My question is, somebody suggested to me once that some vauxhall engines have a 'run safe?' feature, which means that the top end etc can be re-alligned and it would in theory work again?  I've expected the worst and anything beyond that would be a bonus!

Would be greatful to hear from anyone who knows the answer to this!

As always, thanks in advance

I'm afraid that if it's a 16 valve engine it's likely to have done damage :(

If 8 valve then you might get away with it :y

even the 8v can damage, they snap off the rockers to save valves, not a hard job to replace though

Hi james
Thanks for the great offer mate, but we've had to make a decision this evening to get rid of the old girl, a question of economics really, going down to a smaller car for a bit, but thanks again.

Great site by the way, top marks for the help for heroes!
