warning lights and other probs
« on: 05 March 2011, 17:44:09 »

anyone have an idea,
over the last few weeks i have had the "abs" and "tc" lights come on the dash at the same time and remain on, at the same time the speedo drops and doesnt work and no mileage clocks up, everything apart from the time works on the trip computer and the steering becomes heavier than normal. also the radio has a mind of its own and turns itself on and off at its own leisure.  :-/

First thing is to check all the fuses  :y

If fuses are ok, that'll be the ABS ECU, with the search you will find quite a few cars with similar trouble.

AFAIK the only repair is to replace the unit with a known working one... Someone might confirm if it's possible to fix the units?

There are many threads on this subject .. including one with pictures of the failure INSIDE the ECU. It is repairable but requires specialist kit and knowledge.

3 options :

1. New from Vx . Around £700 + a tech2 session to programme to your car

2. Second hand. If from same gearbox/engine/model year will not need a tech2 session. Otherwise it will. Prices vary

3. Repair. BBA Reman do the job, as well as other places. Around £130 but a 2 year warranty. As it is "your" ECu it does NOT need a tech2 after repair.

HTH  :)

i would check your battery connections and alternator output
i
had the same symptoms when my alternator packed up

you have not mentioned any starting problems but worth a check before you spend any money :y
