Quick engine question
« on: 24 January 2008, 23:11:12 »

Evening all! not even sure if im askin this question in the right place but its a wee bit urgent for me!!
I have a late 95 M reg 3.0 Mv6 which im rebuilding the engine on.
My question is that i have located two engines one is a 95 3.0 elite and the other is a 98 3.0 elite, im sorry i dont have any more detail on them like engine numbers. Would either or both of those engines have the same bottom end??
Any help or advice would be graciously recieved! Or as we say over here:- Ill buy ya a pint sometime! thanks.

They should both be X30XE engines IIRC...

To the best of my knowledge, they are the same engine.  Later '98's were fitted with a longer inlet plenum with the minifacelist introduction but the blocks/bottoms were the same, I think.  Someone with more hands on building experience may be able to confirm....   :-/

Some of the very early ones have an extra pulley on the aux belt route but that makes no difference to the swap.

Go for the later one......it has the uprated oil pump, lower idler position moved and better followers (which need the modified T vents).

And fir nice new genuine exhaust manifold gaskets before installation.
