Noise from f/o/s caliper
« on: 02 April 2011, 22:36:40 »

Hello, does anyone know why i get a clicking noise from the front o/s caliper everytime I apply the footbrake? This has only started happening since i changed the pads and discs.

Presumably it's that sliding bolt thing taking up the slack? Is it meant to do that? I've never heard it before.

Thanks

It will be the spring on the pads worn away I'll bet. A quick inspection should show the problem. May find the pads are due anyway....? How old are they?

Oh yeah makes sense! I bust the spring when i put the new pads in! They're only 6 months old! It's not an MOT fail is it? i doubt it, hope not! Thanks Chris

You say you changed the pads/discs? What make were they? Even if genuine OE they probably need a little filing off the edge, they could be sticking.
edit - you bust the spring 6 months ago? errr, time you sorted it then.  ::)

I think chris has identified my problem! I filed off the edge, I don't think it's this. How did I manage to bust the spring?!?!

Thanks agemo

Busted spring is certainly the problem.

I managed to bust it off the n/s outside pad when I replaced mine before Christmas, heaven knows how but it just fell out off the pad with the little silver metal rivet thing.Ended up pushing it back into hole in pad and all went back together.

Every time I pushed brake pedal, but only in reverse,I got a nasty click sound.

Couple of weeks ago fitted new set of front pads again and this time all fitted correctly..no noise and all works fine.

Busted spring or its mounting in pad.
