I had the same problem on my 3ltr. I parked it so the sun was on the door to get it warm, then locked and unlocked the car several times and the door opened. On mine it was a sticking deadlock, might not work but worth a try.

Sounds like the door lock solonoid has gone fubar on your door as did mine a couple of weeks ago.
Mine would not unlock so i went to the pass door and gently started to thump the door near the lock with the side of my fist and managed to shock the lock into opening whilst i blipped the blipper.  give it a try you have nothing to lose. :y

I will try that tomorrow (hopefully) Thanks.

I have thumped the door at the handle position as hard as I dare for fear of damaging something and I have not been as lucky as you were.  Thanks anyway.

This whole problem started when the door would not actually close properly and just kept bouncing back.  On one occassion, it just would not stay closed after many many attempts, so I locked the car with the remote and then tried again.  This time it did close properly but has not opened since!  I don't know whether this gives more clues as to what the problem actually is?

I will try leaving the car in the sun, bearing in mind it is not that hot at this time of the year but in the meantime if anyone else has any ideas.......

dont thump it at the handle but in the area beween the handle and the edge of the door. other than that i guesss the only way to get it open will be to destroy the door card to get to the lock.
But that will be last resort obviously. :o

it does seem that I will have to destroy the Door card but does anyone have a picture and / or a diagram of the locking mechanism so that I can have one last try at poking something down the window gap to try and open it.

Andy B
Thanks.  That has made good reading and I was very interested to read that access can be gained with the card wedged open.
I will give all that a try tomorrow!
Thanks again,

In my case.

I defo found it easier with the seat removed.

The most difficult screw to take out is the one at the back of the door near the lock area, half way up the door. I ended up nicking the rubber a bit, but hay, nothing compared to damaging the card.

The bottom ones are easy with the seat removed and it gives you more room to force/lift the card up and over the top lip.

Also because the seat is out of the way, the card can be gently sprung open quite some way, allowing more room to get at the lock mechanism.

I found getting hold of a replacement lock, before hand, helpfull to understand how the lock works before hand, about £30 at scrapper.

I did end up damaging the brown plastic rain cover that is wrapped around the lock.

Hope this helps :y

Ps - I asked the guys about removing the seat and got good advice. I posted in the wrong section, but it is here. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1303506488

An update on progress (or lack of it!) today.

I decided to destroy the card, rather than try to pull back the original, so I checked the availability of a replacement, ordered it and then set to with a Power file.  I cut a hole in the card a bit larger than the hole in the door frame.
The first thing I found inside, is that the external handle is not connected to the lock.  The rod from the handle is just hanging in mid air.
Having done all this though, I have still not yet managed to unlock the door.  It seems well and truly jammed in the locked position.  Even though I can now see the full length of the locking tab rod, It is impossible to pull it upwards to unlock the door.  I guess this is why the central locking cannot open it.
Having read again the posting on a similar topic from the link provided by Andy B (above), it appears that there is a nut on the side of the lock, so I am hoping to be able to turn that tomorrow (providing I can find it!), unless there are any other suggestions on how to free what appears to be a very solid lock.  I have owned this car almost since it was new, so I am confident that it has not been tampered with previously and all the mechanism is the original.

All this problem started when the door would not close properly.  It just kept bouncing back.  In the end, I locked the car with this door open and then shut it.

To date, it has not opened since.

If there are any other suggestions they would be welcome!

It's fixed!
The problem was caused by a seized door lock.  It had seized downwards in the locked position and this was why the external handle had become disconnected from the lock.
I managed to turn the small star shaped wheel on the top of the lock with a pair of pliers and the door opened.
I decided to purchase a new lock, rather than a second hand one because once I had operated the lock a few times it started to operate quite normally but I did not want to trust it doing the same thing again, or risk getting a second hand one that may have been as bad as the one I removed.
I am pleased to have a 4 door Omega once again!
Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
