Boot racks
« on: 29 January 2008, 20:11:03 »

Hi

I am trying to decide between a saloon and estate omega, but the saloons appeal to the missus more hence this question!

We all know that you can get that boot/luggage racks for convertables, but do you reken it would be possible convert for use on a saloon? And how much weight do think it would take, hopefully 60kg!

Thanks

I use a roof box on mine, ( Saloon ), holds a lot more than you think. Roof bars are cheap as the car has a rain gutter, pay no more than £25 for bars, Halfords want over £50, far too much, part number 405u, easily bought elsewhere, if you can get into Maccess, trade warehouse, they are £16+vat.

Has your Mrs had a drive of a Saloon and an Estate?
My Mrs would prefer the Estate as she says there is a big blind spot when she reverses my saloon, where as the estates rear corners are far smaller.
Also if you want to carry losts more stuff that you can get in a saloon, maybe an estate would be better.....
Who wants a roof rack on the top of their Omega, or a basket on the back?
Look like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ;D

The basket would only be for occasional trips, what i want to put on it is too heavy to lift to the roof!! It would'nt fit in a roof obx either due to akward shapes.

No, we've test drove either yet as my car hasn't sold but she's a typical picky woman!!! If she doesnt fancy it, she wont like it no matter what ::)

Need to bring Mrs to a Meet then a couple of really nice Estates, Bob Dents and Elite Pete's :y
I dont know if there is a weight that you can put on the bootlid, but when i have put the four bikes on the back of our old Cav, I couldn't lift the boot up :-?

60kg is the weight of a teenager - I wouldn't want one sitting on my boot so estate sounds best - or put your fridge freezer in a small alu trailer instead  :y
