Healthy Discount
« on: 20 December 2011, 14:23:55 »

Don't use my Halfords trade card much, but needed some new windscreen wipers. Mine self destructed in the recent cold snap, they were old and crap anyway, but hoping they would last the winter.

Walked into Halfords, check the chart, found them, £18.50  :o

Gets trade card out at the till, that will be £7.90 sir  ;D

Should have gone for flat blades tunnie, Halfrauds do them for the 'normal' wiper arms.

I got some for my skudo the other day, ok a tad more than you paid, but then the blades i bought were bigger than an omega, so cost more.....but still got a healthly discount using my trade card  :y

Oh, and since fitting them, i think there better than the normal type of blade  :y

Interesting thread this. I posted earlier about TC prices for wipers, then saw tunnies post and thought I'd go to Halfords instead. Never thought about flat blades though, but it's good to see a recommendation for them  ???

I have had a set of VX Flat blades now for nearly 2 years and have been really pleased with them.

Being just a flat section with the blade if you fit a screen cover for the frost they tend not to get damaged or bent when removing them from a frozen screen.Cant remember how much they were when I bought them but think they are probably due a renewal so might treat the car for Chrimbo.

Trip to dealers then as don,t have a Halfraudes T/C.

I carnt remember what make they were now, but they wernt Halfords ownbrand.....i found them inbetween the Halfords ones and Bosch  :y

On the skudo, the drivers side blade is a whopping 28" and i used to find at speed the ordinary blade used to miss and lift of the screen.....tho an ordinary blade with an air dam might have improved this.

At 70mph the other day on the m4 with it raining and loads of spray.....i found wiith the flatblades....they cleaned the windscreen perfectly.....so a thumbs up from me for them  :y

I was disappointed with aero style, so always revert to GM ones.  The Halfords ones don't last well (but then I do abuse wipers this time of year ::))

Always fitted the flat blade ones for a few yrs now
The best ever ones are what I have on at present
I got them from Wiper Blades Ltd at Kidderminster when I had my screen replaced
Make is Trico a real old fashioned brand
Can't remember how much they cost no doubt not the cheapest
But certainly very good :y

Use Bosch ones from Halfruds over here, seem to last quite well given what the car has to put up with ::)

Ah the old wiper debate. Not had this for a while. I have Gm blades currently. Got cought out after a long period with no rain, to find my bosch aero blade twins had finally given up after two years. So gm blades fitted on tc, as bosch aero blade twin wipers not sold at Halfords last i looked and i wasnt in a position to seek out a factors.

Anyway, compsarison
Bosch aero blade twin. Good sweep of the screen. Lasted two years ish. Good even pressure on the glass. But a bit of a thump as they change direction.

Arero blade style, rubbish. Noisy, rattly, cant cope with the screens curves. Lift in the slightest cross wind. Poor visibility.

Gm quitest of all, but still leave the odd blob of water if they lift, which they do suprisingly often. But the main thing against these is the springs. Each spring gives a pressure point, and over time these mark/scratch leave 5 or 6 tracks accross the screen, which in a low sun situstion is frankly dangerous, esp if on an old screen.
There will be those who comment "oh you havent changed your Gm blades often enough" not so. On previous brand new screens, spring tracks have appeared in 6 months.

Other gm style blades, all fairly hopeless tbh. Including Halfords own. Although i havent tried the them for years.

So ime... If fitting traditional style wipers fit Gm only and change them regular or they bugger the screen.
If fitting aeros, fit bosch only. Expensive but cheaper in the long run. Put up with the noise in favour of hood visibility.

But if your screens old and scratched anyway, who cares. :)

Alot of words for a simple subgect i fink, but there we are.
