Oil Leak from near Manifold on 2.2 Petrol Omega
« on: 27 May 2011, 01:46:10 »

I daftly thought and assumed that an oil leak I had within my engine bay was most likely down to the Rocker Gasket, but after my engine warning light came on and I cleaned all sensor plugs which cleared this issue I noticed the oil leak is coming from near the downpipe/manifold closest to the back of the engine.  :-?

Any ideas as to what this could be?

I am hoping it is not a cracked head!

My omega is the 2.2 Petrol Z22XE engine.

Cheers

It could be the breather tube where it bolts onto the block.  After I cleaned my breathers and bolted this pipe back on I hadn't noticed that the gasket had moved so wasn't sealing.  It resulted in an oil leak but was easily fixed once I'd found it!

It probably is the camcover gasket! If the 'half moon' sections of the gasket have not been seated correctly with a smear of VX Black Sealant or been disturbed when the cover was refitted, then the result will usually be a leak that inevitably shows just where yours does  :(
