Bacause there is no fuel pump only the injector pump it can take ages to get the air out of the system. The best thing to do is fit one of those small bulb hand pumps on the fuel feed line, failing that the next best thing would be to tow it until it starts, keep it over 1/4 full of fuel and if possible park it facing down hill.

I'd find the fuel filter housing and check to make sure it's full to the brim with diesel, be careful when refitting the lid, they only really need to be finger tight and it's easy to pinch the seal or crack the housing.

Once it's full and the lid is back on then try cranking the engine over on the starter motor for a while, run it for around 5-7 seconds and then let it cool for around 5 sec's. Do that around 4 times and the car should start, if it doesn't then refill the fuel filter and try again.

If after 3 goes at refilling the filter it still won't start then you can try either towing it or a can of 'Easy Start', that should be enough to suck the fuel through and get it running... if it just runs for a few seconds and then dies then I'd be about ready to condemn the pump...

Also, if you do try and fill up the filter have a check for any tiny metal fragments that may be caught up in it, a sign of mechanical pump damage.

Any engine light issues recently? Has the rev counter been playing up?

I think you have just found the problem the engine has run out of fuel due to a faulty gauge.
As elite pete says fit the hand primer and also pour diesel in the filter and don't over tighten then crack all injector pipes at the injectors then turn over until fuel comes out.

UPDATE....
I would sincerely like to thank all the people who have sent me advice on starting my dead Miggy, as you know me and my wife just started our holidays with our caravan and Miggy died leaving us stranded 300 miles from home, because of you kind messages Miggy is now mobile again, after a useless mechanic that Green Flag sent out, who told me it was injector pump at £1200.00, well she up and running and it was nothing of the sort. I would aspecially like to thank Paul. Windowman who came out specially to site to give advice and messages he had printed, as I have no access to a pc, and even offered to go to Bournemouth to get me some parts. Thank You Paul. I would also like to thank, Pete, Elite Pete, who phoned me with advice and offered support no end. Thank You Pete,  One member even text me that he coudnt help me, but wished me the best of luck. Thank you all, you are a great set of guys and I am proud to be a member of such a club. Best Wishes. Tankie1rtr

Nice one.... :y It's bad enough if you breakdown locally but when you are miles away and on holiday must be a nightmare.... :)
