How do I remove estate spoiler - Facelift elite
« on: 23 June 2011, 18:52:59 »

Hi All
I have some rust appearing up in the join area between the top of the tailgate and the spoiler. I'm having someone look at doing some paintwork on the car and I'm sure they will want the spoiler removed to get at it. Has anyone removed the spoiler on a facelift? If so, how do i go about it please?

Thanks Pat.

I have just removed one tonight, and it is a nightmare of a job!

There are no bolts holding it on, just lots of the same type of adhesive as is used to fit windscreens nowadays.

You really need to use windscreen removel wire (cheesewire), but it will trash your paint on the tailgate and possibly the roof as you saw through the glue.

It's not all bad news though...

I recently had some rust dealt with on the tailgate of another estate with a spoiler.  My bodyshop man is awesome, and he sand blasts away all traces of rust. We were concerned the rust may have got under the spoiler, so he nibbled away a bit of the spoiler material with the sand blaster, and it was absolutely fine! he then did a simple filler repair to the spoiler and painted the entire tailgate and spoiler in one! The results are absolutely perfect!!  8-)

My advise to you... leave the spoiler where it is and treat it as part of the tailgate!
