99T 3.0 Elite losing water.
« on: 05 June 2011, 12:11:40 »

My car is losing water. Header empties quite quickly after a coupe of days. Done my back in at the moment so can't really take a look but when I'm able to, does anyone know a common fault to look for please.

Also temp gauge and wash/wipe not working although I assume that will be fuses?

Many thanks for any replies.  :y

Hi

Well the most likely culprit is the hbv (heater bypass valve). This sits at the rear of the engine under the windscreen scuttle. It looks a bit like a small Star Trek Spacecraft.. It has a bellows inside that persihses or fails. The valve controls water flow to your heater and is operated by a vacuum hose. Bit fiddly to change. Allow and hour and a half first time. Only use genuine VX about £35 to £40 at a guess. Cheap pattern off EBay etc not recommended.

Other sources of leaks include. Heater Matrix (you will get damp carpet in the footwell, possibly see drips underneath footwell and steaming up of windscreen). Also oil cooler in the V of the engine can leak. less likely is a core plug or a small pipe. Both round back of engine. If you were able to squirm around underneath you maybe able to see drips or staining to help pinpoint the culprit. Highly likely to be the hbv.

I've checked the fuse/s for the washer system and all ok.

So it seems I need a new washer pump.

Any ideas on price and/or part number for the pump please?

Thanks.
