Did a silly thing...
« on: 11 July 2011, 23:01:32 »

Whilst get stuck into removing the rads from the breaker tonight, I undid what I thought was a bolt securing the air-con bottle thingy to the rad... turns out the bolt actually seals the pipes to bottle, and I managed to release refridgerant everywhere!!!

After a couple of minutes of running arond my garden in a blind panic, I returned to the scene of the crime and nipped the bolt back up again. I now have a luminous yellow/green mess over the parts of the car immediately around the area where the gas escaped!!

My questions are:

I'm not worried about losing the gas, as I'm taking it apart anyway. So shall I just undo the bolt again and let what little remains of the gas escape?

Am I likely to die anytime soon???  :-/

Doubt it.  ;) It was the old style refrigerants/CFCs like R12 that could be potentially toxic. They produced phosgene gas when burnt ie if you smoked when in the vicinity of the stuff.
