Superchip on 3.0
« on: 05 August 2011, 06:38:38 »

A local vendor to me will superchip my car for £168 giving a claimed 12-15 bhp power gain. I'd like to know of anyone has had experience of Superchips in the past and if I'd notice that sort of power gain?
I know it is a generic map as opposes to an individual/bespoke re-map
But for £168 it seems reasonable in the grand scale
of things....?

You will notice a 10 - 12 BHP increase, it seems like you are getting a right bargain too as most superchips are the £300 mark

remember to take your car for a dyno run before and after.

We'd be interested to see if there's any power rise.

most dyno shops will do a single power run for very little money.

..... and it'll give you some evidence when you try to get your money back

Hmm... A bit dubious myself ;) And that is coming from someone who had a chip in their 3.0 that was proven to work! ::)

It was more fun over 4500 RPM but low down there was no noticeable difference

On any naturally aspirated engine there are very few pickings for a  chip to exploit. Certainly not £168 worth of pickings, especially when you add on whatever your insurance company will add when you notify them. ;)

I'm not keen on a dyno run due tHe stress exerted on the car. So is the genral consensus, it's not worth it? Superchips corporate web site say £293 so this place mist be having some sort of drive to get business maybe? They're a proper authorises s.chip deqler and said what they do is get info from my ecu send to superchips then get my car back in and install the new map. For £168 I couldn't get a full performance exhaust for that and even then it wouldn't release 12 brake.

I'm not sure a chip would either. ;)

..and a pull on a rolling road is no worse than a flat out acceleration run on the real road provided there is enough cooling.

I had one on my MV6 when it was 2 years old back in 2000. I didn't notice any improvement at all TBH.

They are really funny about giving refunds - but I managed to sell the chip on at very little loss when I eventually sold the car a couple of years later.

I've subsequently had their Bluefin system on a couple of Turbo Diesels and the results have been very good indeed.

Diesels are far easier to improve on giving better economy as well.

Petrols on the other hand will always cost more money, both in the initial cost and loss of economy. Generally not worth the cost. Personally I wouldn't bother.

Got a Superchip in one of my 3.0 MV6's, (Never paid for it, mind). Cant honestly say it gave better performance did increase the Mpg though from never wanting to go above 33mpg to hitting 38mpg on a cruise (Manual).

Not sure I would be parting with 170 notes, though it is cheaper than normal, make sure its a proper Superchip and not a clone, Superchips have additional electronics on a PCB under the main Eprom Chip.
