Car been laid now oil everwhere
« on: 28 August 2011, 19:44:02 »

My 2.5v6 elite has been off the road for 3months and upon starting it has now dumped what seems like every bit of engine oil from somewhere at the rear of the engine. What is their that could dump several litres of oil in a few minutes? I was getting it ready for it's new MOT and I've never had engine problems with this car at all so has taken me by surprise a bit.

Been peaking with a torch and can't see any evidence of oil at the top half at the rear and the leak looks like it's around the oil filter and the puddle is mostly on the nearside so hopefully it might be that. Anything else around this area that can leak badly?

Oil filter could well be loose and when pump started caused the leak.

Hopefully a simple fix. :y

If its been sat for 3 months then its worthwhile changing the oil and filter anyway so if its the oil filter then a very easy fix at the same time :y

As suspected it was the oil filter. Had a rust hole in it for some reason. All ok now but seems I'm going to need a new battery as this one's not holding charge.
