Omega Y26SE Engine (Cadillac CTS 2005 2.6 V6)

Hey guys, first post!
First off, this post is regarding Cadillac CTS 2005 2.6 V6.
I am posting in this forum because it seemed the most relevant, the engine being the same.
Mods, if you disagree please move to General car chat.

So, I'm looking at buying a 05 CTS 2.6 V6.
After researching online I found that the European version was fitted with the Omega Y 26 SE 2.6 V6 engine.

Reading online that the US 3.6 V6 (not Omega) engine is causing nothing but trouble, I am wondering if this also applies to this engine.

I searched bur couldn't really find a satisfactory answer;
is there something I should be aware of regarding this engine?

Any information is greatly appreciated!

2.6 is DBW (drive by wire) so electronic throttle engine here in UK, the 3.0/3.2 we have here is fitted to US Catera's but I believe the compression is lower than we get.

Also the 3.0 I think was DBW for you, we never had that.

Early 2.6's suffered with weak stem steals, not sure if this problem affected CTS  :-/

This issue was resolved after 2001 so should be fine.

Check cambelt history, should be changed every 40k or 4 years which ever is first, its a good point to bargain with if its due  :y

Ok, thanks this is clear. Actually I might have problem with them. Year model is 2001, 160 000 km behind and every morning blue smoke after cold start. Not yet increased oil consumption.

Yep - that'll be valve seals.  A little residual oil seeps down past them overnight and gets drawn into the cylinder to give that puff of smoke after you start up.  Not a calamity (unless it is giving you a red face  :-[ ) as the amount of oil involved is generally so small you hardly notice it on the dipstick. 

Otherwise the 2.6 engines seem reasonably strong as long as you change the oil frequently (5K) and keep the crank case breathers cleaned out regularly.  Always assuming the previous owner hasn't neglected it.

I'm not completely sure it is the same engine...

there were CTS powered by 3.0, 3.2 and 2.8 - all of which were a different engine. Time for a photograph if I can find one....

Hi I worked at the plant in England that built the engine I also went to the Cadilac plant in Michigan problem solving.
The posts on the valve stem seals are correct - i gave that info to this forum a few years ago as i worked on durability testing this engine.
The problem with the seals is they were not sealing onto the stem - very easy to remove hence very easy for oil to get past  the guide and into the cylinder - as i remember i think the defective seals were brown - the better seals were grey.
With the proper garage tools it is possible to change the seals with the cylinder heads inplace - the tool uses compressed air through the spark plug hole and with the cams and tappets removed has a sliding clamp that compress's the valve springs. these are common place now so if you can find somwhere with such a tool it would save you a fortune in labour. othewise its heads off.

I think the 3.6L V6 you're refering to is this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_High_Feature_engine#3.6, which is a 60° V6. The Catera/Omega one is 54° between the cylinder banks.

The 60° model superseded the 54° model and as far as I know they have nothing in common.

just re-read your original post - we built engines for the cts from start of production in 2.6 &3.2 but this was only till around 2003 then they used their own american built v6
