Advice please
« on: 01 February 2008, 19:14:46 »

My wife works for her self and we have been talking about starting up a web address to advertise and promote the business.

Does anyone have any advice on what is the best way to go about this, and on how to have her own www page.

I have looked at several on the web, some design (which is expensive) and some just give 14 day trial and its designed yourself, which we would prefer.

Would any of you guys be able to recommend anyone or the best way to do it.

Please bare im mind i aint technical, i can use different programs but web page design is new to me.

there are simple web page design tools around..

Although at first sight they seem to be tricky , with little work and

reading from net within few hours you can start building nice pages..

Not necessary to write html codes. The software arranges all..

Even within microsoft word you can design and create html pages..

ps : also you can use frontpage or dreamweaver , or free material..

Some of them have ready templates..

You could approach your local technical college.

Im sure the IT/web design/or what ever its called these days may be able to assist in a design for you.

Worth a go.......and probably virtually free  :y

Or as advised......ask Greg  :y

You need:
1. A domain name like bandit127.com
2. For a web at that domain to be hosted.
3. To design and upload your website.

You can run your own site from a home computer but I wouldn't recommend it for non techies with normal internet access (dynamic IP address).

Google "web hosting" to see what you will pay.

I have a very simple site at http://www.bandit127.com.
It was written with Front Page.
It is hosted by Godaddy and costs about $70 a year for registration and hosting (IIRC).

Crazydad, your new avatar is not very PC, to much in-your-face British, I suggest you change it to something with a theme based on the EU, Greenpeace, Global Warming and Organic (non-GM) Farming...  ;D

Miggy,

I have my own website and I use a US hosting company (XO.com). The service has been faultless over the last five or so years. You can also use their simple web-building program.

First port of call is www.register.com, where you can see what domain names are available for purchase. As all prices are in $, you can get some pretty good deals.

Feel free to PM me if you need more info.  :y

Have a play with some freeware tools, see if you can do yourself, then sort out hosting seperately.  Need to do it that way round, so you know what you require from host.
