That was a common approach in the early 90s, hence why the scrotebags always carried one.

I gained no end of relays when I had my old Astra GTE, as the scrotes always put one in before attempting to nick my car.  Fortunately for me, I used to take half the car indoors, but it meant a good line in new locks (got so bad at one point, my dealer used to keep a new barrel for my key in stock)  >:(
