Alarm Randomly Goes Off
« on: 13 October 2008, 10:33:15 »

Hello all,

Just spent the weekend running back and forth from my brothers driveway trying to switch off my Omega's random alarm.  It's been randomly going off since a long drive in heavy rain last Friday.

I donn't even arm the thing but it does this anyway when I lock the car (from the door or fob).  It doesn't switch off either via the fob or ignition - I have to actually start the engine and let it run for about 30 secs before the sounder stops.  I even left it unlocked but the bloody thing still kept going off

I've checked boot/bonnet/door closures and all seems fine.  I hate car alarms anyway and would prefer to kill the thing rather than have to get a tech diagnosis and all that.  Is there any way I can just disconnect the alarm while keeping the other electronics happy... not to mention my neighbours?

thanks!

Is it a electronic siren, or a horn sound?

electronic siren.  Apparently the sounder is hidden under the front wing  with it's own power supply...

Yup, pull it out (using correct procedure), and throw it in the garage.

whoo-hoo  :)   is the procedure described anywhere on the forum?  better for a garage or possible with basic tools (and knowledge)?

Remove scuttle - cover many times before, bound to be in Maintenece Guides.

Ign on, then off, and remove power sounder within 15s of ign going off to stop it sounding.  Or wrap in a blanket until its batteries go flat ;D

That was my chosen method when I removed the alarm from my m/bike. ;D I didn't get the fob, or overide key when I bought he bike cos I didn't know it was fitted - till I came to replace the main bike battery!  :-?

brilliant... won't be using a blanket though - I'm thinking more concrete and a trip to the nearest river

thanks!  :y

Managed to do it although it's an awkward enough job.  If anyone else is looking for a idiots guide - Robbo299 has posted a illustrated guide under the following section:

Omega Owners Forum › General Omega Chat › Maintenance Guides › Power sounder disconnection

The only thing is, the wiper arm was an absolute b*tch to get off - "tight" doesn't really cover it!  I sheared the teeth on the wiper post and arm trying to get mine off.  Wiper still works but probably took a few years off it's life  :o

At least the farking alarm is safely in a drawer the back of the garage!
