Have lost all radio reception!!
« on: 17 November 2008, 15:11:31 »

I have an after market head unit which has been working perfectly and still does, apart from I have lost all radio reception all of a sudden. I have searched for stations in many different locations so it has to be down to the aerial.
I have checked connection to the back of the head unit and all is well. Am I correct in thinking that my car has an aerial amplifier somewhere? I have the type of aerial that is on either side of the glass on the rear window.
Any suggestions welcome     thanks

Ignorance time!!! Not sure what you mean by remote-on signal  :-[
If you could enlighten me and give me a clue as to its location then I can give it a check.
Thank you

its a signal that the radio sends out to say it is on.  In the old days, it used to be called the electric aerial signal.

In case of Omega, it has an aerial amplifier, which needs 12v, and this signal is used to turn it on.  On the factory fit radio, it was pin 7 from memory.

Ill have another check but all connections as far as I can see into the centre console are intact and I cant think of a cause for the sudden loss of signal  :-/

More likely to be the failure of the joint between the rear screen aerial and the booster on the rear shelf.

Where can I find the connection to the booster and what does it look like? The wire from the aerial goes into roof lining then through the trims above the doors. Not sure where the booster is located to check connections  :-[

I`m led to believe that its situated above the parcel shelf, and a real pig to get to.

Others may be able to advise better than I can

Thanks. The aeriel goes nowhere near the parcel shelf. I traced it as far as the NS door pillar. From there I can only presume that it runs through the bottom side trims and straight to the back of the stereo.
I just want to rule out the stereo being the problem before I fork out for a new one.  :(

If that was the case then the rear heated scren would not work so easy to test.

Most common is the plug at the back of the radio!  :y

Many thanks, I'll try and get a look tomorrow. Is this wired in between the stereo and the aerial? I only ask because as I said previously, my aerial looks to run directly to the front of the car and doesn't appear to go anywhere near the rear parcel shelf. If it's a pig to get to then I don't want to get there and find it's not there.

I have a similar problem and I have determined that it is something to do with the amplifier (it is mounted in the rear parcel shelf, between the lower metal skin and the upper carpet covered skin)

On mine, switching the Heated Rear Window on and off sometimes makes a difference and the radio works for a while.  I am fairly certain in my case that a loose or poor connection is the problem because I gently tapped the parcel shelf from underneath with a piece of wood and the radio did come back on for a while.  My next task will be to remove the amplifier and check the connections.
