How can I switch the AC cooling fans on to low speed?

Do I  need to short a relay Or is there a little diagnostic socket under there which I can bridge?

Its for the TD Elite BTW

Trip to work and back is in heavy traffic, and I could actually hear the water boiling on Tuesday when I switched it off (yet temp was normal - half way?) Did the same trip today, but this time I set the ECC to 'HI' and opened the windows and it was fine.

So, I think the rad is partially blocked on the TD, and I would rather the fans be on low for a few days while I test it, otherwise I will have to take the crap viscous fan off the shelf in the garage! and we both hate them!!  

BTW - I said at the York meet that it was slow at starting... I Changed the leak off's, and it now starts on the button (less than 2 seconds of cranking!  )

Oh an just to add...

If I leave it sat ticking over, the temp gets to JUST over half way, and then the AC fan turns on to the low speed and the temp drops. So this again makes me think that the rad is part blocked as its fine when at idle, but cant cope when its been under load (ie been driven through town) maybe? :-?

Does the rad have cold spots?

Whack on A/C, or shove a paperclip in the (top? from memory) rad switch connector.

I shoved a paperclip across so the fans came on, and the rad didn't have any cold spots  :-/

Ive put a load for washing up liquid in and left it running for a good 15-20 mins, and then emptied 50% of the coolant out.

This morning I refilled it with water, and will reflush it when I get home!

Fairy liquid . That may do a load more harm than good.

Use a quality coolant flush, such as Forte.  Holts speedflush is rubbish.


May be worth popping rad off, flushing it through thoroughly with something nasty, then pouring boiling water in it, and seeing if the whole area heats up uniformly

I thought that too, ah well, its been in, and now its back out again now!   Im sure I've read it a number of times.... ah well!

Good news is the water was all brown and looked like a fair amount of crap came out

Back to running on plain water for 12 hrs (be about 8 miles to work and back tomorrow morning)... and will then reflush and stick antifreeze in tomorrow.

If you think its overheating, does it stay normal temp if you let it idle, or drive pretty gently, but blow its load if you give it even modest bursts of spirited driving?
