could somebody tell me whats involved with fitting the stereo with built in phone (cant remeber model) into my 2000 elite. is it a straight swap or is there a lot of messing around. would like to fit it as dont like bluetooth handsfree kits.

CCRT2008 is the model.  Looking at one on the shelf here

Need to change the display for the CCRT display, fit the mic (may already be there).  Without looking a wiring diags, couldn't say how much wiring is involved.

what mobile networks will it work on and is it possible to get it unlocked/network free like a normal mobile

Would a change to o2 or Vodaphone be feasible? Given that Vodaphone are regarded as pretty damn good, and I've never had an iota of trouble from 02 myself, after 8years with them...

I know it's a bit bum-about-breast way of doing things, but your initial reasons for wanting an integrated carphone system are still totally valid. I'm certainly interested in upgrading to the carphone/stereo at some point; so you're in good company!

As has been said, its GSM900, so thats Voda or o2 in UK. T-Mobile and Orange are GSM1800.

Remember, this takes its own SIM, thus its own number/contract from your normal mobile (unless you have one of those business contracts that allows 2 handsets on one number)

Been looking into this, most comopanies seem to want to charge you more as a 'business account', or similar, for double sims.

What about one of those free sims that various companies are always giving out for free, with a fivers credit on them. Stick that in the mega, and set your phone to 'divert calls when turned off' then just switch the phone off every time you get in the car.

Yes the downside is remembering to turn off your phone every time you get in the car, but then we all remember to shut the door, put seatbelts on, fully depress clutch ..etc... before setting off. 

Hell, I knew this girl once, and she even remembered to release the handbrake almost everytime before setting off!
