so.aftermarket radio and steering wheel controls
« on: 16 July 2009, 14:40:43 »

I guess Dave will know this for sure but maybe someone else will also.
Put an aftermarket stereo, and a steering wheel interface, and the controls went mad >:(
Volume up is volume down now, button for previous song station sometimes become volume up etc.
Looks like the car got either drunk or high ;D
I suppose the interface unit is something like mux demux unit and that there is something wrong with it.
Did this happened to anyone before?
Is the cause probably in the plastic central part of the interface?
Also one thing, they sent me the wrong unit (although they say it is for mig also) Bought autoleads and they sent connects2

Connects2 make interfaces for Autoleads, no problems there, its just a badge on the  box - but I would not attempt to fit a UK spec adaptor into a non Uk car as there are many differences according to country.

Also check that your stereo is the correct RM-X2S or RM-X4S capability for the adaptor, again, many variations on country.

I was talking about multiplexer demultiplexer operation cause I presume it operates using that principle.
Yes the stereo has RM-X4S capability.
Don't see much problem with the car being non UK model, the wiring seems to be completely the same.
The only thing I can think of is that the controls can be on the wrong side (volume in mine is on the right side,  and I'm not sure for position of it in Uk)
Did you ever came across a similar problem maybe?
And of course thank you for the reply.

I`ve had so many problems with steering control adaptors on Non-UK cars, that we will no longer supply them outside of the UK.

Not a descision we took lightly, but may give you some idea of the scope of the problems we have faced in the past.

Problems ranging from minor irritations such as buttons not doing what they should to major damage including "frying" the stereo and/or vehicle

Just for the info Dave, got mine to work properly after a little rewiring.
Unpluged it a few times, connected the stereo to permanent live feed (works without key now) and it works ok now.
How in the hell did the stereo and car managed to get fried? (and explain this fried a little more please esspecially for the car)

Be carefull if wiring the stereo to come on permanently that you do not introduce any form of Battery drain. - not uncommon if you have wired in a Sony the way I think you have

 ::)

I would rather not go into too much detail over other issues and problems, as on a public forum it can lead to all sorts of misguided problems that will follow, except to say, that there is only one way to wire in a stereo, and that is the correct way.
