Temperamental starting & alarm going off
« on: 15 August 2009, 21:58:59 »

2003 face lift 2.6 V6 Elite auto.

Sometimes/usually it starts fine.

Sometimes it starts but the alarm goes off.

Sometimes it just won't start unless I take the key out & try again.

I'm thinking that this is probably caused by a failing transducer on the ignition barrel.

Is the transducer just a dumb receiver or is it a fiendishly expensive device that needs tech2 to pair it with the keys/car?

I might have got my terminology wrong. I think the transducer is part of the key.

I think I have read on here about a pick up coil that clips onto the ignition barrel which is prone to failure.
