Sat nav again
« on: 31 July 2009, 20:40:22 »

I know I have been told to change the Antenna and sorry to repost without doing this yet .
The thing is  I have now put the antenna in the back of the car , it was in the front there was an extension from back to front .
I am now picking up 6/7 sats I have repositioned the car and been for a drive around with the unit set, and it  worked it knew where I was and guided me home ,
I checked the position Long and Lat and it matched my other sat nav so I assume the antenna is working ,does this sound ok so far  :question
Porblem  I have is when the ignition is turned off and back on the car looses its position and says I am about 15 miles away it does this every time even after setting car position .

still reckon antenna, but if you want to prove first, I have lots of spare bits you can borrow if you want to play chop-and-change for a couple of weeks

SMB = sub miniature type B http://www.amphenolrf.com/products/smb.asp?N=0&sid=4A76288044FF617F& for the gory details.

M or F usually means male or female.

OK so its not the antenna I have a new one and  I am getting the same problem with this fitted
It is working ok generally but it is still telling me  I am 12 miles away from where I am when around home when its first turned on and its always the same place ,its as if this is set as a default home position is this possible and if it is ,is it something that can be changed  :question

I did wonder that too but it always goes back to exactly the  same place as if its set . I did notice before  I moved the antenna it was loosing the date and time untill it sorted its self out which would have pointed to power failure with ign off . Since I moved the original antenna that now does not happen .

I will have to check the connections on that connector again I think as long as we get enough dry weather to actually get out there and have a look  ::)

The offer of lending any part of carin still stands - swapping cd unit may help eliminate wiring issues etc. I could probably even get tunnie to deliver to bicester ;D

Sounds to me like the constant 12v supply is getting switched off with the ignition. Are you sure that its there all the time?

:-[  I think  I have sorted the problem now , it was a wiring problem  :-[
I am not sure why  I had not picked up the problem when  I first installed the sat nav about six months ago  :exclamation
It appears that  I had not got the perm 12v with ignition off , which as lincsRobert correctly pointed out I swapped this over on Wednesday and thought that was it until  I took the key out of the ignition and the bloody sat nav stayed on  >:(
I have checked it all again and found out  I also had the ign 12v wired wrongly so  I have now changed that too and it all seems to be ok now  :y
