MID Advice Please
« on: 01 November 2009, 13:19:00 »

I understand that you can take out the MID display fairly easy (without taking the steering wheel off as the Haynes manual suggests!) so I'm going to take the wifes one out to see which type of display I need.  My questions are a; if I take it out the MID can I leave it out? Or do I have to put it back in temporarily until I get another? and b; Do I have to get the exact same one ie a 3.0 Auto or can I get one with the same display and get it reprogrammed to suit the car?

It'd probably be easier to ask if anybody's got one on here when I find out which type I need but I just want to be sure.

Thanks.

Dash out, 10min job, and yes you can leave them out.

If your just ripping out to see what type (Grey or Yellow connecter), might be easier to post Mig details and year or piccy of it on here, sure someone will tell you what type you have.

3.0 Auto would be fairly common to get, or get another one and have it programed with a Tech 2.

If you press both controls on the right hand stalk at the same time for about 3 seconds the display will change abd twll you how its configured.

You will get something like:

035 3

24355

Displayed, this should be enough for to help find a replacement (I think)

Right, got the MID out (and changed all the bits I needed to change as well :)) and it looks like somebody's had it out before as one of the three metal contacts on top which mate with the clock setting buttons was bent backwards and not mating with it's corresponding contacts. Only two screws as well holding it onto the actual dash panel!

And flip me, I think Herman must have had three shredded wheat when he did the two screws up holding the dash panel onto the car ;D I had to go and get my extra long extra manly phillips screwdriver to get them undone and I'm no weed!

Anyway, its got two connectors, one yellow and one black and part number 90 379 234 but I'll post a thread in the parts wanted section.

I'm with you on Herman Strong as I did this yesterday. Also, the 2 mids that I did yesterday also only had 2 screws in - so I think they are supposed to be like that .........
