No Sound!
« on: 08 December 2009, 20:56:31 »

Help please. Always feel embarrassed to admit thy I've no clue, but on this occasion I'm completely Stuck.

On Sunday afternoon I replaced the speakers in the back doors of my omega. Same ohms of course, differnt size but manage to knock up my own adaptors using MDF.
I tested all four speakers separately an together, and they all worked fine. Door cards back on, off to bed.

Get up for work in the morning, and no sound at all. The stereo is on, it's picking up signal and playing CDs and tapes but there is no sound at all, even from th front speakers which had remained the same.

The head unit is an original CCR 2006, obviously not s Bose one. I have tried removing the rear speakers again, but the problem stays. No sound. I've replaced a few speakers and stereos over the years in various cars but this time I'm completely bamboozled.

Help please - my commute is just over one hour forty five minutes each way and the boredom is killin me!

Sounds like you may have a wire shorted to earth which is shutting the head unit down. Not uncommon for the rear fabian leads to touch the metalwork and give a similar fault when playing around with self built mdf rings - try bashing doors / doors wide open / windows up and down to identify which one is problematic

If you do not have a meter handy to check for a short, disconnect the speaker wires in turn at the rear of the head unit with it switched off, and then turn on to see if sound is restored

Question for DAVE DND ? -- The 3 plugs at the back of the mounting cage, ..can you explain what each one does (from Top to Bottom please).

Also do the plugs pull out or slide out..not sure how hard to pull etc

I hace a Phillips SC804 unit installed.

Bottom plug is power and steering controls

Middle plug is High level audio out

Top plug is for CD changer, and other special features such as Screen outputs and audio in/outs depending on model and supported functionality.

Plugs are generally tight with a small latch down the side that must be depressed first to release them

for Dave-DND,
Thanks for quick response, could you confirm that the the middle plug is likely to carry the audio out to my front door speakers as only Drivers side is producing sound. (yes.. I have altered the balance controlscorrectly  etc) but I stiill get no sound from passenger front). Just wondering whether I have a dodgy wire/connection to passenger side front. Both rear door speakers are working work fine.

cheers,
David

Looking at middle plug - the speaker +ve is on the top row, and the speakr -Ve on the bottom row

Inner connections are front, outer connections are rear, left and right accordingly.
