heated seat relays
« on: 28 December 2009, 16:02:27 »

After switching on my drivers heated seat today(which i have always thought doesent work),i noticed after quite a few minutes,it started to get very slightly warm and that was on number 5,so my question is could it possibly be a relay that has failed, and does the relay control the two of them.? :-/

I found a clicking sound in the middel consloe on drivers side when switched on and same on drivers side when that seat was on, says in book that there is a temp switch on the earth wire but cannot find it, you may have more luck.

I stripped a leather seat down today and took some pictures of the mysterious little relay. Will post tomorrow hopefully.

Speaking for pre & mini facelift cars the relay is tucked away INSIDE the seat base and only fitted to leather and cloth Elite seats. Normal cloth seats dont have the relay.

Neither is fed via a relay - the switch on the dash carries the full seat current of bout 5 amps per seat.

Will explain in more detail when pics posted.

I really can't comment about facelift seats though.

Interesting,so i take it all the probs people have with heated seats not working may not be down to the elements as everyone seems to think(including me :D),especially if that is correct about a temp switch on the earth, and when swichting mine on,i dont hear anything click. :-/
