Hi all I broke my ecu and need a replacement I found one off a diesel auto same year as mine nut wondered if an ecu with an ecu with the last 3digits different will work or not?I know I need it programming to keys etc but would it work?

are you sure its broken, they never just fail, unless you were attempting to chip it?

You need the paired immobiliser ECU and the paired transponders, else you cannot start it.

So is that saying I just need to get a tech 2 to sort that or is it case of buying a 428 ecu?I need a new one whatever so can I buy an ecu for a diesel auto and have it programmed for immoberliser and it wil work?

You needs the correct ECU for your car, be that 214, 215, 427 or 428 (from memory, yours is 428?).  Plenty available from breakers.

**BUT** to save programming, you also need the paired immobiliser ECU and the paired transponders.  Buy the whole lot as a bundle from a breaker.

If the ecus are new, it is possible to tech2 them together, but a) new ecus are stupid money, b) you have to pay to get car towed to a tech2
