Nokia Car Kit Woes
« on: 16 April 2010, 11:37:28 »

Hi All

Just looking for a bit of advice.

My mig has a nokia phone kit in, so I bought an old 6210 for it the other day. The phone works fine but it seems the car kit doesn't! Is there any separate fuses on these at all? Or should I be able to check for any power coming through the kit and which pins would it be? I have no experience these kits at all and don't have much of a clue. The missus has a friend coming over tomorrow with her 4 kids  :D so it would be an ideal time to be out the house fiddling with the car!

Thanks!

Am assuming it's a "Cark91" kit, so don't put a meter anywhere near the little pins on the holder. There are THREE fuses to find, look behind your glove box for a start, there will be a fuse each (differeing values) on the red, blue, and black wires, and MAY be a fuse on the yellow too (mute for radio)
Red is pos+ve 12v, Black is NEG/EARTH/GROUND, Blue is IGN pos 12v when key is on, Yellow sends neg to ground when it rings, muting the stereo (if it is fitted)

Have loads of spares for this kit, PM me if you are stuck.

Mike.

Thanks Mike!

Funny, first thing I was going to do tomorrow was attack the pins with my volt meter! Would that have caused damage then? I will have a hunt for the fuses, I'm hoping it's something simple but I'll give you a shout if stuck.

Many thanks again

Oh yes!! +ve and Neg pins are side by side, if you hadn't got blown fuses, you would soon have! Plus, pins 4 and 5 are data, you may have blown up the control unit.......

gissa PM if you need a few bits.

Just to let you know - your advice was superb Mike! Checked under the glove box, found the fuses, one of which had blown, replaced it, put the cover back on, checked the phone, jobs a good 'un!

Thanks again! ;D
