Heated Seat Questions
« on: 18 April 2010, 19:37:03 »

Hi guys
My hubs replaced the cloth MV6 seats in our 2000 facelift with leather ones from our 1999 mini facelift MV6..Apart from the airbag light staying on everything went well.We have noticed that although we set the heat button to 0 both seats start to warm up within a couple of mins of starting the car and continue to stay warm for about 5 mins before  going cold again :-?Hub said you cant really get the wiring wrong so can anyone shed any light on this..
Thanks Angie xx

The seats are different!

The facelift ones have different settings, the mechanism to control that is not in prefacelift seats

As TB says, completely different seats (and when you see the schematic for them, you'll see that the "wiring" can easily go wrong if you aren't electrically minded).

Okay guys how do we remedy it then :question and could this be why the air bag light came on although we disarmed the battery for 30 mins before and after before touching the wires :question

That all depends on what you had, and what you have now.

It's possible that the airbag "fault" would need a kiss with Tech 2, Angie.

The actual seat side airbags are the same, so I would suspect a dodgy connection.

The airbag light will stay on even after the fault has been fixed, and will need a Tech2 reset, however, if the fault isn't fixed the light will com straight back on again!

Remedy the heaters - put the cloths back in, or get facelift leathers (guessing the sports leather in facelift is rocking horse poo though).

Airbag - any possibility the ign was switched on with the airbags or the seatbelt electrics not plugged in?

Right guys, cant put the cloths back in the mini facelift as now gone to a new home..The MV6 Sport leathers that I have in are from a 1999 S Reg mini facelift and the facelift is an early one a 2000 X reg..When my hubby swapped them over he said all the connections went in okay they were all colour coded and only went in one way.

Heaters - in that case, you need to trawl through the wiring diags and modify wiring to be a simple on/off like prefacelifts, rather than the variable settings that facelifts have.

Airbag - will need to get on a tech2 or similar - sorry.

It's wierd that the seats will go up and down as they should..I suppose an auto electrician would be able to suss it out for us..The seats get warm for about 5 mins after starting the engine and then go cold again if we dont touch the setting dial..

Doubt it.  You have to provide the correct signals to the in-seat heating controller, which takes signals from dash settings and seat temp, and controls the heating elements directly.  This is a very different setup to prefacelift seat heating.

Not got a prefacelift diag in front of me, but doubt you'll be able to use anything off the current switch without making up a small controller circuit.

The facelift switch provides a variable voltage to the facelift's in-seat heating controller.  This will need, I suspect, to be modified to provide an on/off high current supply to seats
