Cruise Control Failure
« on: 22 June 2010, 23:37:39 »

Hello,

First of all i would like to say, thank-you for having a useful set of how-to docs on this forum, already followed a few of them with success!

Wondering if you guys might be able to help me with my cruise control?

It was retro-fitted into my '97 CD 2.0 by me a while ago, taken from a CDX auto donor. I bought a new clutch sensor switch off Vx and fitted the lot.

The problem i get is that it works the first time you engage it, but after that it just wont engage. Most of the time the  2nd or subsequent attempts to engage it fail and i am left having to press the pedal myself!!

Would anyone have any idea where i should start with this? I _think_ it might be the brake pedal sensor, as that seem to most consistently cause it to stop working.

All help is appreciated!

Ta,

Did you fit a new indicator stalk ? or secondhand? Maybe one of the stalk switches is intermittent (or the cancel button sticking in?)

Another possibility is that the cruise ECU is detecting a fault the first time it is released and then refusing to re-engage  :-/ I think you would need Tech2 to look for fault codes in that case.

Ideally needs to sit on decent diag equipment. May be worth filling your location - a member nearby may have the diag equip and be prepared to investigate for a pint :y

Hi guys,

The control stalk was from the donor car. I shall have a look at it. But it may be worth noting that if you stop and start the engine, the cruise will usually come back to life.

TheBoy. I actually have a "My Naff Code Reader" i bought for a project. No idea really how to use it. Are there instructions available?

thanks,

I cannot see any documentation on the Auto M3 website

Usual rules apply. No discussion of illegal copies. First resort is to contact the vendor who sold it to you.

Any attempt to share copyright material would put this forum under threat so best not to even ask.

There are people who use "My Naff Code Reader" (or vaux-com) who read this forum and I am sure they would be happy to share advice on the legitimate use of "My Naff Code Reader".

Try looking at the live data coming out of cruise unit.  "My Naff Code Reader" isn't very good in that respect I'm afraid.

"My Naff Code Reader" doesnt seem to contain anything helpful. There is no live output from the cruise control available and the fault codes section demands that i replace the ECU. Not too useful...
