AS far as I know Josh, they are paired from OEM (HU and CID) or can be unpared whilst in the car (via Tech 2 and audio pass), whilst unpaired, then a Safe Mode CID can be paired to the HU (again via Tech 2), if that makes sense, although there are a few Co's around lately that claim they unpair or put in Safe Mode as a Hack, no doubt TB or DND will put me straight on that one.

My german is poor.

You are looking for an 'unpaired' one.  I cannot unpair one without the pairing code (well I can, but not 100% reliably due to lack of correct equipment).  Dave DND may be able to.

Display safe can mean its depaired, but can also mean its got a pairing code that does not match the HU.

Its a risk.

Personally, apart from the things I told you before about distance to destination, and clock always being visible, I don't see many advanatages over GID
