Petrol gauge reads nearly empty with flashing red warning but trip computer says range 70 miles. Who's telling the truth?

Range is average mpg over last 12 miles made into a range, so if you have been blasting the motorway its accurate  :y

Thanks for that Tunnie. I've suspected the gauge might be a bit dodgy but doesn't really matter if I can rely on the range.

Range can be very misleading .. as it depends on how you have been driving recently .. but does not know how you will drive in the next few miles/minutes !!

It is VERY easy to get the range indicator rising ..  just drive it like you stole it for 20 minutes, low gears, bouncing off the rev limiter stuff, full throttle or full brake .. fun time . :) Then note the range .. Now drive it like you are on an economy run, low revs, high gear, featherlight throttle, afetr about 2 miles the range will start to rise.. and quite quickly normally .. :)
