nokia mch-8 car kit
« on: 19 October 2010, 08:15:11 »

Hi All, i have a nokia mch-8 car kit in my mega but have a nokia n97 phone. this may be a silly question but can i not just trace the mic and sound cables, cut them and put my own 3.5mm phono jack connector on the cables and plug it into my phone? basicly tricking the unit into thinking ive just plugged in a wired hands free headphone cable??? any info good or bad will be appreciated. many thanks. Won't work, you need a kit compatible with your phone

No, MCH-8 (the cradle part no) is for the old Nokia 2110, one of Nokia's first GSM handsets. The impedance of the external speaker will probably be enough to destroy the handset, or at least it's audio amplification stage.

Your easiest option is to ditch it all and buy a Nokia CK-7W kit and connect using bluetooth.

The half a dozen I had here fetched nothing but space in landfill ;)
