Electric mirrors
« on: 20 December 2010, 22:44:05 »

PFL/Saloon
The mirrors will only tilt upwards when I press the button. Pressing down, left and right does nothing, I don't hear the motor working either.
This fault is identical on both mirrors.
The tiny light beside the selector switch does not light up.

my guess would be a fubar'd switch if the fault is the same for both sides.

Well done guys, spot on with the diagnosis. I pulled the switch out, opened it up and found all the contacts covered in verdigris and a spring loaded pin was siezed.
I'll load some pics when I get the computer to recognise the camera.
Result is both mirrors now adjustable in all directions.
Many thanks.    :y :y

Verdigris on the contacts, one of the contact caps still in place.

Spring loaded pin siezed.

Pull control button out to release the pin holder.

Two of the three contact caps which sit on top of the pins, or under them, depending on your view.

Contacts cleaned up.

Vaselined and ready to go back together with caps back in place.

Cheers TB. This was on the PFL saloon but have just noticed that the FL estate has the same problem.  :(
At least now I know how to deal with it.   :y

The PFL mirror switches always get dripped on when the drivers window open a little, daft place to put them really.

F/L - remove switch pack, and check the entire unit is still clipped together...
