erratic rev counter '98 2.5td
« on: 23 May 2011, 20:21:58 »

 >:(can anyone help me? .the rev counter on my 2.5td cd estate seems to have a mind of its own. In normal driving when i accelerate the counter drops to zero. When i take my foot off the pedal the needle jumps to where it should be. Could it be a bad earth and if so where? I recently renewed the glowplugs and for a few days everything went back to norma. Thats what makes me think its a bad earthcaa

Where does the rev counter gets it's signal from? diesels can use the crank sensor, alternator or possibly from elsewhere...

pretty sure the 2.5 gets signal form alternator but i stand to be corrected!!  :y

damn hit button before i had finished, so the fault could be the alternator belt slipping when throttle first applied? could well point to a worn belt or a sticky tensioner?

I take it you are in Skegby which aint to far from me, so if you have no joy ive got a spare TD dash you could try to eliminate the clock itself. :y

:(Thanks, the new belt did nothing . The dial seems to be working spasmodically which still makes me think its a bad connection. Question is where could it be ?
